Discussion Question

  • Descriptions in this chapter are very dramatic. Verses 20 and 21 may help explain the reason behind it all and what these events attempt to achieve. What do you think?

Going Deeper From 'Words of Life'

Trumpet 5. The Abyss is suddenly opened. From the Abyss come demonic locusts, looking prepared for battle. Faces resemble human faces. Fierce. Woe!

Trumpet 6. Another invasion of human society by malignant beings – from the region near the Euphrates River, by Babylon. Demonic horses, choking people with fire and smoke coming from their mouths. They have snakelike tails with heads that bite and sting. More woe!

The Great Tribulation will be horrific! One would think, after all that takes place, people would turn to God – asking, begging, to be forgiven of their sins. Yet we read these sobering words:

The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent … did not stop worshipping demons, and idols … Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts (9:20, 21).
