Going Deeper from 'Words of Life'

The Bible is God’s love letter to us. In fact, this rather large and complex letter contains 66 shorter love letters – to guide, direct, inform and instruct us in living according to God’s will and purpose. All these letters have been written to let us know how much God loves us. In fact, he loves us so much that he sent his Son into the world to be one of us – then to die for our salvation. Because of his resurrection, we can live with him eternally.

Such wonderful love!

Intuitively we want to express our love for him in return. Perhaps even respond with a love letter to him, expressing our deepest affection for the God who created us. May I be bold enough to write a love letter on behalf of us all today?

Dear loving heavenly Father,

We can never begin to thank you for your wonderful ‘love letter’ to us – your Word. Help us to feed on it; to drink in all you have to say to us; to uphold its principles as we live out our faith daily.

Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins – in order that we may receive salvation. We bless you for giving us your precious Holy Spirit, who enables us daily to live in a way that’s holy and pleasing to you.

Father, we so often fall short. We still sin: we are selfish, egotistically ambitious, envious of others, jealous. Yet you still love us. You still forgive and restore us. You still believe in us. Father, you are so gracious!

And so, with all our faults and shortcomings, we simply want to tell you how much we love you. We would be totally lost without you.

Today we give our lives to you afresh. And as we recommit ourselves to you and reaffirm our love for you, we promise to love one another as you have commanded us to do. Help us, we pray, to love well – until we see you face to face in Glory!
