Going Deeper From 'Words of Life'

Following Paul’s dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus, the apostle did all he could to follow God’s direction for his life. But it wasn’t easy. He faced extreme opposition everywhere he went. Yet in facing constant conflict and persecution, he remained faithful – and people’s lives were changed, forever. He was obedient, and God was ever present.

The known world became a different place. Pockets of new Christian believers began to spread the gospel, willing to give their lives for Christ. It was all because they had accepted God’s unconditional love for them. And love cannot fail.

Paul expressed his love through times of turmoil. Even through stoning, beatings, imprisonment, he was always there for others – all because of love. People are still being persecuted for their faith today. They need our support through prayer and intercession.

Paul expressed his love through encouraging others. The newly established churches needed encouragement to keep strong and firm in their faith. There’s nothing quite like a word of hope and encouragement from another! It’s vital, and life-giving.

Paul expressed his love through a humbleness of spirit. He was attacked, accused, abused. Yet love prevailed. Love cannot fail, especially when it’s showered upon those who express unkindness and hostility. Humility is not a weakness, but a strength; for it shows a strong sense of the inner self, because of God’s Spirit.

Finally, Paul expressed his love through his strong witness. When we’re in communion with our Lord, his love is ever present. And so, as we bring closure to this book, it’s wonderful to end with the subject of love. I now leave you with my blessing:

May the Lord continue to bless you and keep you;

May his love radiate in and through you;

May you sense his peace, hope and love, always. Amen.
