Boundless Love

God’s love is not bound by time. The very nature of God – eternally Father and Son and Spirit – is love.

God’s love is not bound by place. ‘If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast’ (Psalm 139:8-10 NIV).

God’s love is not bound by threatening circumstances. ‘…neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord’

(Romans 8:38-39 NIV).

God’s love is not bound by gender, race, economics or social, moral and spiritual conditions.

‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life’ (John 3:16 NIV).

‘Yet the proof of God’s amazing love is this: that it was while we were sinners that Christ died for us’  (Romans 5:8 J. B. Phillips).

And so we pray…

Adoration

We stand amazed as we try to fathom the immensity of God’s love. As Charles Wesley wrote:

‘Amazing love! how can it be

That thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

‘He left his Father’s throne above,

So free, so infinite his grace,

Emptied himself of all but love,

And bled for Adam’s helpless race.

’Tis mercy all, immense and free,

For, O my God, it found out me.’

Thanksgiving

We give thanks that we are embraced by God’s love.

We give thanks for those who pointed us in God’s direction.

Intercession

We pray that everybody might drink in God’s satisfying goodness.

We pray especially for those who do not feel they are worthy of God’s loving attention.

‘They shall come from the east, they shall come from the west,

And sit down in the Kingdom of God;

Both the rich and the poor, the despised, the distressed,

They'll sit down in the Kingdom of God.

And none will ask what they have been

Provided that their robes are clean;

They shall come from the east, they shall come from the west,

And sit down in the Kingdom of God.

‘They shall come from the east, they shall come from the west,

And sit down in the Kingdom of God;

To be met by their Father and welcomed and blessed,

And sit down in the Kingdom of God.

The black, the white, the dark, the fair,

Your color will not matter there;

They shall come from the east, they shall come from the west,

And sit down in the Kingdom of God.’

Confession

We pray for forgiveness if we have stood in the way of anyone hearing Jesus, seeing Jesus, or accepting his love for him or her. We pray that we might become engaging witnesses to the boundless love of God.
