Impact of Covid-19 on Health

COVID-19 & Justice

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Ensuring adequate health systems and promoting well-being is essential to sustainable development.

The pandemic has raised awareness of the insufficiency of health systems around the world. Most countries have insufficient supplies and health care workers to accommodate the rise in the demand for health services. The head of the WHO, Tedros Adhanon Ghebreyesus, recently stated that the continuing shortages of supplies such as gloves, medical masks, respirators, and aprons, are leaving doctors, nurses, and other frontline healthcare workers “dangerously ill-equipped.”

Physical health is not the only concern. As individuals, communities, and nations grieve and overcome fear from COVID-19, mental health remains another priority. Many people are struggling with the effects of the pandemic such as unemployment, loss of loved ones, additional stressors, and lack of physical contact with friends and family.
