Invitation to Participate in the International Day of the Girl - 11 October 2019

The United Nations declared October 11th as the International Day of the Girl to raise awareness about all issues concerning gender inequality around the world.

It’s a day when groups come together under the same goal to highlight, discuss and take action to advance rights and opportunities for girls everywhere.

Any group in your Corps or facility can take part.  Girls are considered to be18 years of age and under for UN purposes.

The theme is “What does it means to be a girl where you live”?

We are asking you to help celebrate the International Day of the Girl.  You can contribute to the 8th Annual Speak Out at the United Nations.  You can present this theme in different fashions but no longer than 3 minutes:

  • A skit (2 minutes)
  • Music production ( 2 minutes)
  • Singing Group ( 2 minutes)
  • Timbrel Group ( 2 minutes)
  • Band Group (2 minutes)
  • Poem

We would really like to hear from girls on what is means to be a girl, from where you live and some of the issues that girls face just for being a girl.  We want to share with the UN what girls in the Salvation Army face in their parts of the world, and to reflect the talents of girls in the Salvation Army around the world.

Send us pictures of girls in your Corps or facility and we will put them together for a presentation of Girls associated with The Salvation Army.  It would be an opportunity for the global community to see what girls in the Salvation Army can do through the Arts or Musical groups to express what is means to be a girl where you live.

Please post your video on YouTube and send to Major Victoria Edmonds, the name of your video and the address of your YouTube video.  Please send to this address:

IHQ-ISJC@Salvationarmy.org

Be sure to include name of group, country you live in, your Territory, Corps name if it is a Corps group, or facility name.

Please sent in by: September 10, 2019 the latest.  The sooner you can send it in the better. If you send by August 25th, the group will be mention at the UN on October 11th.
