PRAYER FOCUS: SEPTEMBER 2013

‘Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all the day long’ (Psalm 25:5 English Standard Version).

Reflection

There are times when we become totally consumed with our day-to-day activities. We have a set routine and if anything changes we feel like our whole world may collapse. We become so focused on these activities that we forget about God. In every decision we make, we must consider what God is telling or teaching us.

God is always there – whether in times of trouble or gladness. When we have heavy burdens, God will give direct and strengthen us if we reach out to him. When we are joyful, God will rejoice with us and direct our next steps. We must follow the example given to us in Psalm 25:5 and daily ask God to lead us in truth and wait for his reply, no matter how long it may take for that to come. This may require patience on our part, but there is a Spanish proverb that says, ‘Dios tarda pero no olvida’, meaning ‘God delays but does not forget’. God will guide you if you allow him to work at his pace.

‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths’
                                                                                                         (Proverbs 3:5, 6 ESV).

Lord, in you I trust. Don’t let me be put to shame and my enemies get the better of me. I know that those who trust in you shall rise up, while those who go against you shall be put to shame. Lord, give me strength to fight my spiritual enemies.

Lord, in you I trust. ‘Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long’ (vv 4, 5 ESV). Lord, you are my Saviour! Help me to wait on you for as long as it takes for you to answer.

Lord, in you I trust. Remember your mercy and steadfast love for me. Forgive the sins of my past and show me your steadfast love, because you are filled with goodness and are faithful to your followers. Teach me to be humble and guide me in what is right.

Lord, in you I trust. Help me in my time of trouble. You know what my troubles are and how they burden me. Give me the strength to endure these struggles and to learn more about you as I do so. Make me a stronger person through this journey.

Lord, in you I trust. ‘Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land’ (vv 12, 13 ESV). Lord, I want to fearfully worship you every day! Guide me with your hand so I can prosper in your ways.

Lord, in you I trust. ‘The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant. My eyes are ever toward the Lord, for he will pluck my feet out of the net’ (vv 14, 15 ESV). I fear you Lord, so I am anxious for our friendship to flourish. Teach me your promises, Lord! Help me to keep my eyes on you, so I do not stumble.

Lord, in you I trust. ‘Consider how many are my foes, and with what violent hatred they hate me. Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me! Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you’ (vv 19, 20 ESV). You know how many enemies I have! Keep watch over me and keep me out of trouble. Lord, in you I trust.
