The Salvation Army in Peru Provides Assistance to Fire-ravaged Indigenous Community

The Salvation Army is helping 400+ families whose homes were destroyed in a fire that swept through the Cantagallo community in the Peruvian capital

THE Salvation Army in Peru is providing assistance to more than 400 families whose homes were destroyed in a fire that swept through the Cantagallo community in Lima, the capital city.

Cantagallo is a shanty area, consisting primarily of simple wooden huts, that has been home to the Shipiba indigenous people since 2000. At least 300 homes were destroyed in the fast-moving fire, leaving around 2,000 people homeless. No one was killed but a child was admitted to hospital with severe burns and almost 50 people were treated for smoke inhalation.

A Salvation Army team is working with the people of Cantagallo, providing breakfast, essential care items and support to families who have lost their homes and possessions.
