The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Our message is based on the Bible. Our ministry is motivated by love for God. Our mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in his name without discrimination. The movement founded in 1865 by William Booth, has spread from England to many parts of the world, helping countless people in over 120 countries. The Salvation Army Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar Territory was established on 1 March 2005 to serve those in need to the best of our abilities. The work in each country commenced much earlier, with Myanmar in 1915, Singapore in 1935 and Malaysia in 1938. The Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar Territory's highest-ranking officer is Territorial Commander, Colonel Rodney Walters and he is supported by Chief Secretary, Lieutenant Colonel Garth Niemand, while Territorial President of Women's Ministries, Colonel Wendy Walters is supported by Territorial Secretary for Women's Ministries, Lieutenant Colonel Patricia Niemand.
Their positions are appointed by the International Headquarters in London.
The Salvation Army is structured in a military pattern with leadership vested in the General from the International Headquarters. While the chain of command extends from the General, through the Chief of Staff, into overseas departments, actual administration is vested in the territories and their individual community units. |
