It was with great joy that 43 women from the South Asia zone gathered at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo for the Zonal Women Leaders' Conference. The conference was held from 27 – 29 October, under the theme “Treasure in jars of clay”, and the guest was Commissioner Rosalie Peddle (World President of Women's Ministries) supported by Commissioner Marieke Venter (Zonal Secretary for Women's ministries, South Asia zone). The objectives of the conference were:
1. To provide basic understanding of contemporary issues and challenges (Human Trafficking, Child abuse, Substance abuse and Parenting in IT world)
2. To enrich personal spiritual life through fellowship and sharing.
3. To value ourselves as precious in the eyes of God.
4. To cultivate a deeper knowledge as women in leadership on South Asia.
Commissioner Rosalie Peddle led the delegates in digging deeply into the Word of God. She touched on many aspects of the theme, helping us to understand an appreciate that although the vessels of our lives may be cracked and imperfect, we carry within us the treasure of light and power that come from the Holy Spirit dwelling within us.
On Sunday the group was privileged to worship at the Colombo Central Corps and partake of the spiritual sustenance provided by Commissioner Rosalie Peddle, under the title “Sing unto the Lord a new song”.
During the conference there was time to explore several social issues affecting women and girls in South Asia: There was teaching on child abuse by Commissioner Prema Wilfred (TPWM, INT), Major Heather Grinsted (RPWM, Middle East) provided teaching on human trafficking, the topic of ministering and parenting in an IT world was explored by Lieutenant Colonel Mani Kumari (TSWM, IET), and substance abuse was discussed by Lieutenant Colonel Lalhlimpuii (Under Secretary, SASIA).
In addition to the time set aside for business discussions, there was also an opportunity to reflect together about the roles of women, and specifically women Officers, in the South Asia zone. Throughout our days together, there was much laughter, sharing and warm fellowship. It was a time of being reunited with old friends, and the start of many new friendships.
The Final message and challenge were given by Commissioner Rosalie Peddle who focussed on the lesson Jeremiah learned from the potter. The delegates were presented with God's passion, God's patience, and God's pardon. All responded to the call for prayer, some kneeling besides their chairs, some coming forward to the place where chairs were placed as a Mercy Seat. The Holy Spirit moved amongst the group, and the delegates returned to their appointments with renewed confidence and energy for their task, rejoicing in the certainty that all are precious in the sight of God.
