The writers' workshop was held during 26th to 30th April 2018 at Conference Centre, Surrenden, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. The precious workshop was organised by Editorial & Communications department of The Salvation Army, India National Secretariat, Kolkata. 24 delegates consist of two officers and two soldiers from 6 Indian territories had been selected for the workshop.
The workshop was started on 26th April 2018 at 3:00 p.m. after welcome lunch. The very first session we had introduction session in which inauguration was done by Lieut. Colonel Daniel Raju Dasari, National Secretary, Rev. Caesar David, Communication Secretary of NCCI and Major Jashiben D. Khristi, Communications Secretary & Editor for All India English War Cry.
Second day was started with morning devotion led by National Secretary on Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.” After that, Rev. Caesar David handled the topic Elements of Effective Writing and we learnt so many things about the importance of writing. Not only listening, we delegates did practical session about articles writing.
And then the session about Salvation Army Reports by Major Jashiben Khristi and News and Reporting by Rev. Caesar David we learnt about what should be the lede, body and the title. After early session we did our practical work like report writings and how to report and news. The day closed with prayers.
Third day started with devotion by Rev. Caesar David and the session by Mrs. Seline Augustine about “Short Story Writing and “Feature Writing”. We learnt about how to write short story, how the title should be, the features we must know about writing. We were assigned to write a short story and the session end with group photo and then after lunch we went to different places for site seeing and day ended with dinner and prayer.
And the next day morning devotion was conducted by Mrs. Seline Augustine and session was about Equipping a writer and interview techniques by Rev. Caesar David. We did our practical work by taking interviews each other as sir explained what qualities the interviewee should have the basic things he/she must know.
Now the final and the last precious day of this workshop which was started with the morning devotion by Major Jashiben Khristi with a very motivational verse from Psalms 32:8. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” After that National Secretary gave important information relating War Cry and it’s process of printing. Finally we were having a spiritual meeting by our leaders which was conducted very nicely. We got participation certificates and five delegates were selected by resource persons for best article writing and they were encouraged with small gift. We heartily thankful to Lord Almighty who has chosen us and made us this much capable to attend this Writers' Workshop.
