TRAINING OF TRAINERS (CHILD PROTECTION, MANAGING INSTITUTION, ETC.) AT HRD AND SOCIAL CENTER, CHENNAI

// 20 JANUARY 2018 //

It has been a long time since there's a desire to do something with TSA work with children – institution, corps, hostels and schools. The goals of maintaining safety and development in children and the institutions needed a policy - capacity building by providing special training to specially selected people could gradually bring the change. The responsibilities will be shared, more widespread among specially trained people who will in turn, train more people.

The Vision followed by plans with burning desire to organize “Training of Trainers” for more efficiency in Child Protection, Children in Ministry, Managing Institution; and Anti-Human Trafficking finally became a reality on 30th October – 2nd November 2017. Ms. Jane Dodds, International Director for Child Protection accompanied by Ms. Melissa Goodman, Deputy Director arrived from IHQ as chief resource persons. The other resource persons were Lieut. Colonel Daniel Raju Dasari, National Secretary and Major Vanlaltluanga Pachuau, Secretary for Social & Emergency.

Chief Guest, Lieut. Colonel Jashwant Mahida, Chief Secretary delivered powerful keynote address he was accompanied by Lieut. Colonel Ruth Mahida, TSWM. The four days hard trainers included 18 delegates Officers and Salvationists. Training atmosphere was light and open, rank and appointments were no bar, discussions and group works were also lively. The training technique were new and interesting; some delegates were confident enough to conduct a training programme of their own (power-points for Training materials has been mailed to them and some made arrangements and plans already).

It may be said that the Training of Trainers has served its purpose in the most effective way achievable and it is hoped that more positive results could be expected out of it.

1. Jane Dodds supported by Melissa Goodman has done their parts admirably well by imparting their knowledge and skill in Child Protection.

2. Lieut. Colonel Daniel Raju Dasari presented effectively – how to involve children in the ministry in a more effective way. The materials collected from the Bible, Salvation Army History and personal experiences – the impact was remarkable. He has revealed the actual situation of the children who needed more love, care, attention, understanding and proper plan for their spiritual growth.

3. Major Vanlaltluanga Pachuau, Contact person for Anti-Human Trafficking in India presented Human Trafficking, its scenario in India and globally. The group discussions, amidst tight schedule, revealed the need for more awareness campaign and involvement of Corps, Division, institutions or schools.

4. “Existing practices of Territories in Managing Institutions” Discussion revealed that the subject matter was crucial. More knowledge about International Child Development Policy of TSA, Minimum Standards required for TSA Children Home in India and including them in the territorial guidelines. The session revealed the need for having common guidelines in management of Institution.

I thank God for His presence all through the programme; Sincere thanks to the International Child Protection team and the National Secretary and India Central Territorial leadership for making the plan become a reality.
