NINE Salvation Army officers and soldiers from the US Midwest flew to the southern tip of the Indian subcontinent for a week-long mission from 23 to 30 October 2013. The team visited five schools, boys and girls homes, a vocational training centre and an industrial training school.
Working together, the team was engaged in practical work such as cleaning, painting and whitewashing parts of Thandayarkulam and Sanganery schools. The combined American and Indian team also renovated a wall at The Salvation Army's compound in Thuckalay and installed drinking water pumps at Thandayarkulam. Team members assisted with the midday meals scheme in Nambiyadaippu and helped students in their classrooms.
The word of the Lord was also much spoken by the visitors in Marthandam Division. The visit impacted soldiers and officers across the territory, as they witnessed the love and humanity exhibited by the team members.
Lieut-Colonel T. Alfred, Secretary for Programme Administration, with the assistance of Commissioner M. C. James, Territorial Commander, had made the necessary preparations for the team to visit.
