India Eastern Territory ogranised a big event to commemorate and celebrate the 150th Anniversary of The Salvation Army worldwide. The territory carefully planned well ahead of this event and organized different programmes: Week of Prayer, Community Services, Blood Donation, special programmes at each corps / centre, hoisting of the Army banner in every private residence and centre.
The programmes began from the beginning of July month and ended Sunday on 5 July 2015. The Salvationists marched within the city. Soldiers from 2 divisions within the city area gathered and had a March of Witness with a theme of “Marching Along” and other divisions also observed the same.
The two divisions marched from two different places and met together at Assam Rifles Ground and had a Thanksgiving Service under the leadership of Lieut-Colonels Davidson Varghese and Mariamma Davidson, Chief Secretary & Territorial Secretary of Women's Ministries.
More than 5000 Salvationists gathered and had great time of witnessing, proclaiming and celebration. Friends of the Salvation Army also joined and witnessed the event. The support of the Assam Rifles personnel, the Police Department and the District Commissioner for the success of this event is worth remembering and their kind cooperation was beyond our expectation.
