“Though we are weak, we fail, but through the relationship and fellowship with Jesus, we can be transformed from reed to rock, like Peter” with these inspiring Bible study, the Leadership Development Administration skill workshop has commenced by Commissioner Marieke Venter (ZSWM). It was organized by India National Office for 24 delegates representing six Indian territories under the theme “Towards Excellence”.
The International Secretary reminded about “call and covenant”, in his keynote address which our call and promise we made with “GOD, PEOPLE and THE SALVATION ARMY”.
We learned on “Jesus the perfect example for servant leadership” by Colonel John Kumar (NEO). He taught us the different types of leadership styles. Jesus was humble, caring, loving leader among his people and disciples and set the example for us to lead our people.
“Principle of leadership” by Colonel Manikumari Dasari (SWD) brought seven secrets for successful leadership like Aim High, vision, push hard to achieve goal, be up to date, transparency, Time Management and Be Cool.
We learned the benefits of having boards and councils, how to conduct the board, how to behave in the board, as a board member what is our role in the board through the “Board Room Experience”.
We were inspired by the Bible study on our call, Commission, and Appointment, based on the life of Jonah, Challenges in appointment, God's perspective for our appointment.
“Gender Equity” was another subject dealt with by Commissioner Marieke Ventter which brought the difference between equality and equity. And she emphasized the need for equity rather than equality for all genders.
The “Importance of Children and Youth” in our ministry was dealt with. Called for focus on ministry with younger people, include them in every activities and worship and reminded our responsibility to protect, educate and nurture and empower the children and youth in a spiritual manner.
Colonel John Kumar taught about “Managing Change”. He encouraged us to make a good change in our society and workplace. Goal and plan are needed to do successful work. We learned that with the plan we can evaluate ourselves, understand how far we are from our goal and how we need to reach there.
One creative activity led by Commissioner Marieke Venter was “Letter Basket”. The important thing we learn is prioritizing of work and schedules it. it's helpful for us to make our work easy.
“Quality of Shepherd leaders” shared in Bible study and inspired us in good shepherding by taking care of sheep, protect them and feed them.
We learned about The Salvation Army Administration and the governance policies, correspondence, job description. Commissioners taught the system of boards in IHQ. Through certain activities, we could know what kind of spiritual gift God gave to each one of us and how we use it in our ministry, and we discussed on partner abuse, and solution with counseling, awareness, and spiritual education.
“Managing Conflict” was another topic we dealt with. And we learned, basic finance, to prepare the budget, and how budget is important, by Captain. Aseervadam. In the final worship session, we submit our lives to God's hand and received blessings and strength from God. The final meeting was conducted by the Zonal Leaders and distributed the participation certificates.
Cultural evening: delegates presented dance, skits, and songs, and the International Secretary and ZSWM also contributed. The program ended with the full of happiness and Joy. The visit to Ooty tea factory and botanical garden is very impressive and learning experience.
Once again, we are thankful to God, Territorial Leaders, International Leaders, National Leaders and all Delegates for made our days blissful.
