“While we were in very difficult situation, we lost our hope that nobody will help us. We were unable to do anything, than accepting the tragedy, weeping and crying. The Salvation Army came to help us,” - said the woman at Kaushambi community in Ghaziabad.
A fire accident happened in the month of June at Kaushambi Ghaziabad near hotel Radisson Blu in Utter Pradesh. More than 800 huts were burned to ashes.
This news hit the dailies and media across India. Colonel Wilfred Varughese, TC, took compassion and sent a team of officers to do a survey among the victims. The team went to Kaushambi and the situation was reported back to the leader. The colonel wrote this to International Headquarters, London explaining the reality of the communities' suffering. He prepared a Rapid Response proposal to help the victims and sent it to International Head quarters London.
With the help of International Emergency Service department we received funds for this purpose on 10th July 2015. So primarily a pack of container consisting a big Pan with led, cooking spoons, sets of 6 plates and glasses, 6 Bowls, a water Jug, 28 pieces of Utensils, 2 Bed sheets with pillows and covers were distributed to 500 victimised families. The leaders of the territory, Chief Secretary & TSWM, Mr. Waris Masih, Director of Vision India, Moh. Jalal, the community leader, Mr. Sandeep Sood, General Secretary, Mahanagar Congress Committee, Ghaziabad, and other Government officials were present during the distribution of the materials.
