SENSITIZATION ON WATER AND SANITATION
I would like to give my sincere thanks to almighty God for giving me life and to my Territorial Leaders for given me permission to organize “SENSITIZATION ON WATER AND SANITATION” at Jai Hind Camp, Masoodpur, Vasant Kunj Area, New Delhi on 27th May 2016.
I am thankful to the following persons who supported me to make the Programme successful: Mr. K. C. Gilbert, Mr. John Goel and Mr. Zahur Ahmed From Safe water International Ministries; Major Prekash Chander Pradhan, Project Officer, INT; Mr. Bhaskar Kiran Kumar – MSW; Mrs. Neena Arora - Field Organizer; Mrs. Seema Chugh - Field organizer; Mrs. Fatima Bibi - Project Assistant, Jai Hind Camp.
The programme was started with prayer offered by Mr. John Goel. Then Dr. Issac G. Masih welcomed everyone. Resource persons were welcomed and honored by SHG Members. 30 SHG women and 30 community people (Men and children) total 60 persons benefited by the programme. The purpose of the training was: To sensitize the SHG members on water borne diseases, to create awareness on purification of drinking water, to demonstrate them about how to produce chlorine drops by machine, to provide chlorine drops making machine to SHG members, They can use purified drinking water and protect themselves from water borne disease, to give awareness on use of toilets and share information on government scheme to construct toilets and to reduce the risk of the disease by generating awareness on water and sanitation.
Then Mr. K. C. Gilchrist focused on following water borne diseases such as Diarrhea/dysentery, Cholera, Typhoid fever, Hepatitis, Intestinal worms and Malaria. In addition he said that water borne diseases spreads by polluted drinking water and safe drinking water drops is its solution. The SHG members understood very clearly and promised to share this knowledge with other community people.
They also spoke on personal heath and use of toilets. To set an example for others, they gave gifts to the child who brush teeth daily and having a white teeth, a child who is best in study and two other children who wear neat and clean cloths.
Then Mr. K. C. Gilchrist demonstrate that how to produce chlorine drops by machine.
Community Empowerment Programme purchased this machine and Major Prakash Chander Pradhan handed over this machine to the field organizers, SHGs and community.
The resource persons also visited to the community and observed the living style of community, especially they explained the community people not to put the chorine drops direct into water tank because it passed though the water pipes and again it may pollute. Put chlorine drops into drinking water container only, then it will be a more pure and safe.
This training is very useful for the SHGs women and slum community.
