PROMOTED TO GLORY: COLONEL ARNOLD BENNETT

// 24 NOVEMBER 2017 //

We have received word from the United Kingdom Territory with the Republic of Ireland, of the Promotion to Glory, on 12 September 2017, of Colonel Arnold Bennett.

Born in 1931, Arnold Bennett was commissioned as a Salvation Army Officer in May 1957 in the British Territory. However, almost from the date of his commissioning until his retirement in May 1996 he served on the sub-continent of India, taking appointments in almost every territory in that land. He was joined in May 1959 by Lieutenant Jane Kinnen who became his wife and served alongside him.

From 1959 until 1974, Lieutenant (later Captain) and Mrs. Lieutenant Bennett served in the India Western Territory, firstly at Red Shield House in Bombay, then the Captain was appointed as Assistant Finance Secretary before, in 1965, becoming the Hospital Secretary in Anand. Captain Bennett's final appointment in the India Western Territory at this time came in 1970 with his appointment as Hospital Secretary, E.B.H.Nidubrolu, Madras and Andra where he remained until 1974.

From India Western Territory, Major and Mrs Major Bennett moved to India Northern Territory where the Major served from 1974 to 1982, firstly as the Hospital Administrator at McRobert Hospital and then as the supervisor of Salvation Army operations in West Bengal, Orissa and Bihar, before becoming the Territorial Social Secretary and Area Commander.

From 1982 to 1983, the major served as the Territorial Social and Property Secretary in India Eastern Territory, before returning to the India Northern territory to serve as the General Secretary and then, from 1985 to 1987, as Regional Commander, Eastern region, now with the rank of lieut-colonel.

A further change of appointment came in 1987, with the move to India South Eastern Territory as Chief Secretary.

Following this, in June 1991, Colonel Bennett returned to the India Western Territory, where his service as an active officer had begun, to conclude his active officership-service as Territorial Commander. He retired from this appointment on 31 May 1996.

We give thanks to God for the many years of faithful service given by Colonel Bennett, and offer our sincere condolences and prayers to his wife Jane and other family members.

Sincerely Yours,

Commissioner Brian Peddle, Chief of the Staff
