21, April 2010 is not only known as Queen Elizabeth's 84 Birthday, but also John Wesley's Day; which actually celebrates the laying of the foundation stone at the City Road Chapek on 21, April 1777.

It was said, "In order to understand where we are as an Army it's good to understand where we began."

The session began its day in morning prayers which focused on our heritage in hymns by Isaac Watts and Charles Wesley.

Major Peter Forrest engaged the delegates in morning classes on our Wesley Heritage.

  •  Historical viewpoint
  •  Development of Denomination
  •  The people who influenced our founders
  •  Army's roots as a Holiness movement
  •  Wesley's Class System

We finished the day with a tour of Wesley's chapel and home; it was like stepping on hallowed grounds.  Bearing in mind this was the place where he preached although not that often for he was on the field 90% of the time and then giving reverence to his final place of rest.

It was like the energizing rabbit being recharge!  Wow, what a grand heritage we have as Salvationist.  It was a reminder of how God has truly blessed this Army with our doctrines and encourages us all to dig even more deeper into our magnificent heritage.

What a day... tired yes!  Inspired...you bet!

EAST END TOUR AND DAY OF LOOKING BACK LOOKING AHEAD. . . THE WHITECHAPLE WALKABOUT!

Eastend   Booth    Blind Begger

The Salvation Army began in the East End of London in 1865.  A hundred years ago it would have been easy to retrace the steps of William Booth, it Founder; but many features have change since then.  With the guidance of Colonel Morrice we were able to step back for a while and visit the sites of our Founders grave sites to the beginning of the Army's ministry: the Blind Beggar Public House, the Bust and Statue of William Booth, Whitechapel Road, and the Tent. As well as, where in 1968, Queen Elizabeth II, open Booth House an Army hostel in London, accoummodating 211 men.  Thank you, Colonel Morrice for enlightening us once again of our rich and blessed heritage.
