The 12 principles:
- All those responsible for Salvation Army finances should follow the principles.
- Money is essential for the work of The Salvation Army.
- Fund-raising is necessary.
- Prayer is essential and Salvationists should pray about our finances.
- Each corps should aim to be financially self-supporting.
- Where possible, a corps should aim to raise a surplus which can be used to support The Salvation Army's work elsewhere.
- Every corps must share the responsibility for missionary work, including sharing the financial burden.
- Soldiers should finance the day-to-day running of their corps.
- All Salvationists should receive training in giving systematically and unselfishly.
- Every corps should contribute towards the cost of effective oversight.
- Debt must be avoided.
- Budgeting is essential.
