160 Years: Social Justice

Social justice has been a key component of The Salvation Army’s mission since its inception in 1865.

Discover the inspiring journey of our justice response and the Match Girl's Strike of 1888.

The Salvation Army continues to fight for social justice and has worked with the United Nations since 1947, and in 2007 we established our International Social Justice Commission (ISJC) in New York City, USA.

ISJC is The Salvation Army’s strategic voice to advocate for human dignity and social justice with the world’s poor and oppressed.

Special thanks and additional credits to The Salvation Army United Kingdom and Ireland Territory.
