This year’s theme, ‘Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities’, reminds us that humanitarian action is most powerful when it is rooted in local leadership and supported by global unity. From conflict zones to climate disasters, humanitarian workers are the lifeline for millions of people, yet they face increasing threats, underfunding and violence.
World Humanitarian Day 2025
The Salvation Army joins the global community in commemorating World Humanitarian Day 2025 (19 August) – a day to honour the courage, compassion and sacrifice of humanitarian workers around the world.

The Salvation Army’s emergency and development teams stand in solidarity with these real-life heroes, colleagues from within our own organisation and beyond as well as community members around the world. We work hand-in-hand with communities – especially those most vulnerable – to deliver life-saving aid, restore dignity and build resilience.
Whether responding to earthquakes in Myanmar, internal displacement in Haiti or food insecurity in drought-prone areas of Zambia, our mission is clear: to serve suffering humanity with love and justice.
This World Humanitarian Day, we echo the United Nations’ urgent call:
- Protect aid workers
- Respect international humanitarian law
- Invest in local capacity
- Amplify community voices
Let’s honour the sacrifices made by humanitarian workers with action. Let’s act for humanity.

How can you help?

- Together, we can turn our global village into a humanitarian village, where every hand extended in help is met with protection, respect and solidarity.
