The Salvation Army in Sri Lanka is providing vital aid in the drought-affected north central region of the country. Crops in the Anuradhapura area have failed and people are in desperate need of food and drinking water.
Captain K. G. Piyatissa, who is in charge of The Salvation Army in Anuradhapura, assisted by the Sri Lanka Territory's HIV/Aids team, distributed dry rations and drinking water to 135 families severely affected by the situation.
A Government official witnessed the work of The Salvation Army in the area and helped with the distribution.
Colonel Roy Frans, Territorial Commander for Sri Lanka, says: 'This has been a good opportunity to share our love with the people. It was good of the local government to allow The Salvation Army to conduct relief work despite the present religious tension in this particular area.'
