THE Salvation Army’s leader in Hong Kong has asked Salvationists and friends worldwide to pray for an end to the violence and disruption that has been brought about through clashes between protestors and police.
The proposed introduction of a controversial extradition bill has led to mass protests that paralysed the central business district, with violent clashes taking place between thousands of protestors and police. More protests are expected over the coming days.
Lieut-Colonel Bob Lee, Officer Commanding of The Salvation Army’s Hong Kong and Macau Command, says that Salvation Army corps (churches) will open their doors as places of sanctuary and safety, and that officers, staff and other Salvationists will be available to offer prayer and comfort to ‘all who may seek understanding in this confusion’.
Asking for ‘urgent prayer support for peace in Hong Kong’, the colonel adds: ‘We have requested that our Sunday meetings have a special prayer intercession for the government and the people, and that the spirit of peace will return to Hong Kong. The Army stands united in prayer with other churches and Christians in Hong Kong.’
