The Salvation Army Helps Storm-hit Communities in Nebraska, USA

The Salvation Army has been providing disaster relief in the wake of strong storms that hit Nebraska, USA, on Sunday 11 May

THE Salvation Army has been providing disaster relief in the wake of strong storms that damaged communities in central Nebraska, USA, on Sunday 11 May. Hail, heavy rain and tornadoes caused damage across south-central Nebraska and in central Iowa, with the worst-hit being the Nebraska communities of Beaver Crossing and Sutton.

Since Monday morning, Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services mobile canteen and crew from Lincoln Corps (church) have been stationed in Beaver Crossing – where every building suffered some damage – serving food and beverages to hundreds of emergency workers and clean-up crews. According to Major James Pennington (Lincoln Corps Officer and Incident Commander), more than 1,500 meals were provided on Monday and Tuesday by Salvation Army volunteers and staff.

An emergency services crew from The Salvation Army in Grand Island was deployed to Sutton on Monday to provide relief to those impacted by Sunday’s storms. These operations have now concluded but The Salvation Army will remain on the scene in Beaver Crossing through the rest of the week and will stay for as long as its services are needed.
