EXCITEMENT is building in the lead-up to The Salvation Army’s 150th anniversary international congress, Boundless – The Whole World Redeeming, which is now only 100 days away! To mark this milestone, the congress office has announced another way in which people around the world can get involved in the event, with an open invitation to become part of a global 'virtual choir', singing the classic hymn of the Church, 'Holy, Holy, Holy'.
A virtual choir is made up of individuals who record their part and submit a video online. Once videos are submitted, the recordings will be clipped together to form a truly international virtual ensemble which will feature in the concluding Sunday worship session of the congress, in London's O2 Arena. The final, combined footage will be shown on giant screens, where the virtual choir will join forces with the International Staff Songsters, International Staff Band, the praise band transMission, and up to 16,000 delegates in the arena. With a potential choir membership of more than 1.5 million Salvationists around the world, and many more friends and supporters, this could be the biggest choir ever seen (and heard)!
The message from the congress office is simple: 'Let your voice be heard!' Even if you won't be in London for the congress, this is a way to ensure that you are part of the event.
To participate, all you need is access to a computer with a functioning camera and a pair of headphones. Visit boundless2015choir.org and follow the steps to record your submission. More good news for people heading to London in July was revealed over the weekend, with the reinstatement of the 'Congress World Cup' football (soccer) tournament. Earlier plans had to be cancelled because of the closure of a venue, but a new site has now been arranged. The tournament will take place on the afternoon of Founders' Day (2 July).
The 'World Cup' will be open to anyone aged 18 and above, with applications open to individuals or six-person teams.
