International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025

The Salvation Army joins the global community in commemorating International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025 (13 October) – a day to raise awareness, to empower the next generation to build a resilient future and to ensure those most at risk are part of the conversation around disaster risk reduction

Prepare, India

Together with the United Nations and other humanitarian and development organisations we want to promote a culture of reducing the risks of disasters, including disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness. Today, The Salvation Army stands with communities around the world to recognise the power of preparedness, resilience and local leadership in addressing and reducing these risks.

From early warning systems to community-based training, our teams work hand-in-hand with our local Salvation Army colleagues and other partners to build safer, stronger futures – before disaster strikes. Disaster risk reduction isn’t just about response, it is about empowering communities to thrive in the face of uncertainty. It is also about funding commitments for activities that prevent, prepare for or mitigate the impact of disasters. Join us in celebrating the progress made and recommitting to a future where no one is left behind.

In All the World magazine, Captain Matthew Beatty shares how The Salvation Army is working in neighbourhoods around the world to promote the power of preparedness, creating safer and more resilient communities.
