Authorities in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Celebrate Salvation Army Milestone

The city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, held an event for more than 200 people to recognise and celebrate The Salvation Army's 150th anniversary

THE city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, held an event to recognise and celebrate The Salvation Army's 150th anniversary. More than 200 people attended a meal and reception organised by the Municipal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro, the city's legislative body.

Salvation Army officers, soldiers and employees from the Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Federal District Division were invited to the event, which included a presentation and meal. The ministry of selected Salvationists was recognised and every employee from the division received a certificate. Some had given more than 50 years' service!

Music was provided by a choral group and band, and a timbrel brigade gave a tambourine presentation. Guests of honour represented churches, the Lions Club and local authorities.

Major Dan Ford (divisional commander) spoke about The Salvation Army's international ministry and gave thanks for the support of Councillor Eliseu Kessler, whose initiative led to the special event.
