The Salvation Army’s ICC in Bangladesh is happy to announce the start of their new sewing program. In it's initials stages, as many as
29 girls, ages 7-17, will be benefitting from this project as it provides education in an environment where the girls won't be stigmatized,
discriminated against, or taken advantage of.

Sewing provides independence and brings new career opportunities for these girls, as many come from families that have lost one or both parents. A  caring environment and access to education also stop girls from getting into early child marriage, working in prostitution, or being taken into child labor. Through running this project, The Salvation Army in Bangladesh fulfills its important mission to take care of vulnerable children and protect their lives from dangerous situations.

‘OUR GOD IS TOO POWERFUL TO FAIL’ – THE GENERAL AND COMMISSIONER ROSALIE PEDDLE JOIN BANGLADESH COMMAND’S FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

08 November 2021

A ‘VIRTUAL visit’ from General Brian Peddle and Commissioner Rosalie Peddle (World President of Women’s Ministries) was a highlight of 50th anniversary celebrations for The Salvation Army’s Bangladesh Command. Based in Savar (Dhaka District), the event was held from 20 to 22 October, with the main Anniversary Celebration meeting taking place on Friday the 22nd.

More than 100 officers and cadets met in person but, because of COVID-19 restrictions, larger numbers were not allowed to gather. This meant that the sharing of the meetings online was particularly important to reach as many people as possible.

The meeting was filled with joy and thanksgiving to the Lord and Saviour for half a century of God-inspired ministry. The Salvation Army’s work in Bangladesh began after emergency responses to a cyclone in 1970 and a refugee crisis in 1971.

SPIRIT OF JOY

This history was explored but consideration was also given to the present situation and the future vision for the command. The cadets sang a group song and used a traditional way of sending ‘showers of blessing’ by throwing flower leaves into the congregation. A group of officers praised God with the timbrels. There was a spirit of joy as the congregation danced and made music to celebrate the 50 years of God’s mission in Bangladesh.

Sharing via online video from London, the General and Commissioner Rosalie shared greetings and congratulations. In his Bible message, the General called on Salvationists and friends in Bangladesh to be obedient, to believe and to surrender to God. He offered words of great encouragement, reminding his listeners that God will not abandon his people and that he is too powerful to fail.

SEEKING GOD'S KINGDOM

Officer Commanding Lieut-Colonel Zothanmawia Khiangte shared a Bible verse for the command: ‘All these things shall be added to you’ – an excerpt from Matthew 6:33. The colonel made clear to his listeners that this will only happen when God’s people seek his Kingdom.

When the call to the mercy seat was made, officers and cadets moved forward to pray together and surrender their lives again to the Lord.

The anniversary celebrations were a blessed time of sharing, with some people meeting together for the first time in almost two years.

This was not the end of celebrations in Bangladesh. Gatherings for soldiers, friends and supporters of The Salvation Army will take place in Dhaka and South Western Districts later in November and plans are being put together for an event in 2022 that will involve other churches and organizations.

Reported by Ardi van Hattem, major.

28 September 2014, The worldwide Salvation Army will observe a day of prayer for the victims of human trafficking.

On Sunday, 28 September 2014, The worldwide Salvation Army will observe a day of prayer for the victims of human trafficking. human trafficking is a problem around the world, and also in Bangladesh. May people, especially women and girls, are trafficked for purposes of exploitation every year.

The Salvation Army, Bangladesh, takes a stand against all forms of human traffikcing. It is our opinion that human trafficking (the removal of a person from one place to another, by means of corecion, force, threats or the abuse of power) for the purpose of exploitation) is a crime which violates the most basic human right - the freedom to make our own choices. The Salvation Army believes that human trafficking is against God's will, and against his design for human beings.

The Salvation Army does everything in its power to
* Prevent human trafficking by providing awareness.
* Assist victims of human trafficking by providing skills development and reintegration into society.
* Influence law makers and law enforcement through advocacy.
* Fight the root causes of human trafficking which include poverty, gender inequality and lack of education.

Jesus says in John 10:10 - "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full".

Opening of a Graveyard

Everyone loves life, but we know that one day our God-given lives will end. It is important to have a peaceful and beautiful place for the remains of loved ones who have gone to heaven. This is why The Salvation Army has renovated and restored its graveyard in Jessore. It has solid walls, a neat house for the caretaker, and a well kept garden. It is a place of dignity and peace.

"For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands". (II Corinthians 5:1).
