WHAT WE'RE DOING

What We Are Doing & Why We Exist

We are organised into eight regions of Tanzania.  We call these Divisions or Districts.  From Tarime to Mbeya and throughout Ilembo, and from Serengeti to Lindi, The Salvation Army has centres of worship or community ministry (for more details on how to contact each field office, see the "contact us" page.

As our Mission Statement indicates, we exist to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, and meet human need in His name without discrimination.  Therefore we have over 150 place of worship (corps or outposts), that are led be trained pastors (officers).  Our officers must graduate from a two-year residential training programme located on our Headquarters compound in Dar es Salaam.  Through their service,  traditional, evangelical ministries are conducted, women's groups meet, children are given Christian teaching, and community projects are implemented.  Preaching the Gospel, and meeting human need - this is how we live and work throughout Tanzania.

Our community work reaches the most vulnerable in the country.  Through our micro credit and savings programmes, hundreds of women have stated small business to better provide for their families.  We operate a residential anti-human trafficking centre for girls who have been rescued from exploitation.  We implement community based programmes to assist disabled children with skills development, the provision of appliances and integration learning to contribute to their communities.  Thousands of people are touched by our social and community work each day.

We operate two schools in Tanzania:  Matumaini is a residential primary school for disabled and albino children.  Itundu is a secondary school located in the beautiful hills of Ilembo.  These are excellent centres of learning.  They provide a Christian environment for education to the public, and they provide an educational opportunity for the most vulnerable.
