When fire destroyed the homes of 560 families in Doomingkuppam village, Mylapore Province, India, the local Salvation Army sprang into action. While families looked round the burned-out remains of what had been their homes, Salvation Army workers were already preparing hot food for those affected.
Later, Salvation Army officers and volunteers returned to the area and distributed cooking sets to each of the affected families. The community expressed its thanks to The Salvation Army not only for the help it provided through food and cooking sets, but also for obvious concern shown and words of comfort given.
The Salvation Army's India Central Territory intends to continue to minister to the physical, social and spiritual needs of the families that are still struggling to recover from this disaster.
