Salvation Army continues to respond to need after Hurricane Dean

Salvation Army emergency disaster personnel in Jamaica and Haiti continue to respond to the many needs left after the passing of Hurricane Dean.

Salvation Army emergency disaster personnel in Jamaica and Haiti continue to respond to the many needs left after the passing of Hurricane Dean.

In Jamaica, all the Salvation Army centres, at the request of the government, are being used as registration sites for long-term recovery aid, and the centre in Allman Town in inner city Kingston met a request for 500 mattresses, to replace bedding soaked by the storm.

On the north coast, in Port Antonio, Majors Marthe and Josue Bernabe are housing 175 people in the corps building, which served as a shelter and feeding station during and after Hurricane Dean impacted the island.

As the school year is about to restart, Salvation Army personnel are helping to repair damage to school buildings and replace ruined equipment. In addition, hot meals continue to be prepared, and food parcels supplied.

In Haiti, a Salvation Army school and worship hall in Bainet suffered damage, as did a new Salvation Army building under construction in St Louis du Sud. Another Salvation Army property in Aquin was completely destroyed.
