International Volunteer Day: General André Cox Thanks Salvation Army Volunteers

‘While on this day we think of you,’ says the General, ‘we recognise that you have been thinking of others all year.’

INTERNATIONAL Volunteer Day, the United Nations-mandated observance day which ‘celebrates the power and potential of volunteerism’, takes place annually on 5 December. This year, the world leader of The Salvation Army, General André Cox, has recorded a brief video to thank people from all walks of life who freely give their time and expertise to support the international church and charity’s work.

‘While on this day we think of you,’ says the General, ‘we recognise that you have been thinking of others all year.’

His message mentions some of the ways in which The Salvation Army’s thousands of volunteers have been serving: from fundraising to supporting refugees, and from assisting on street pastor teams to serving meals.

‘You are a crucial part of our Army,’ concludes the General, ‘so today, and always, we thank you.’

Salvationists and friends are encouraged to share the video with volunteers in their local context, and to demonstrate their own appreciation for the exceptional amount of work that could not be done without their assistance.

The video can be watched and downloaded via The Salvation Army’s International Headquarters Facebook page and in HD quality from Vimeo.
