Meetings led by the Chief of the Staff (Commissioner Edward Hill) and Commissioner Shelley Hill (World Secretary for Women’s Ministries) to celebrate the installation of new territorial leaders in The Salvation Army’s Caribbean Territory were marked by a profound sense of spirituality and community.
Installing Commissioners Edeline and Emmanuel Supré as territorial leaders, along with welcoming Colonels Edward and Jennifer Lyons as Chief Secretary and Territorial Secretary for Women’s Ministries respectively, the Chief of the Staff’s presence underlined the importance of this transition, also recognising the global Army’s support for the territory.
During the Spirit-filled meeting, Territorial Commander Commissioner Emmanuel Supré spoke of the need for Salvationists of the territory to be united in mission and for each person to play their part. Bringing a wealth of experience to their new roles, Salvationists of the territory anticipate fostering growth and strengthening of the Army’s mission under the leadership of Commissioners Supré. The meeting also served as a reminder of the shared values and goals that unite the Salvation Army worldwide.
Unity and shared purpose
The following day, officers’ councils were indelibly marked by the presence of the Chief of the Staff and Commissioner Shelley Hill. Bringing together officers from around the territory, the gathering fostered a sense of unity and shared purpose for all present.
Commissioner Edward Hill delivered a powerful message that resonated deeply with the officers, emphasising the importance of being a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord, a role that requires vigilance, dedication and unwavering faith. Drawing from biblical teaching, the Chief of the Staff contrasted this noble duty with the allure of enjoying the ‘good life’. His message was clear: true fulfilment and spiritual integrity come only from serving God faithfully, rather than succumbing to the temptations of a worldly life.
Vital contribution of women
Commissioner Shelley Hill also played a pivotal role in the councils’ meetings. Her presence highlighted the vital contributions of women and reinforced The Salvation Army’s commitment to gender equality and empowerment. The commissioner inspired female officers to continue their invaluable work and to strive for excellence in ministry.
Officers’ councils was not only a time for reflection and spiritual growth, but also an opportunity for officers to connect, share experiences and support one another. The Spirit-filled atmosphere and profound messages delivered by the international visitors created a lasting impression on everyone, setting a strong foundation for future endeavours whilst reminding all of the core values of The Salvation Army and the importance of steadfast service to God and the community.
