At the Kaeris Girls’ High School, The Salvation Army has planted 800 drought-resistant neem trees. This was done in collaboration with sinking a borehole to create a solar-powered well, which provides enough water to the school for daily use and the watering of the trees. This has changed the environment of the school, where there are more sheds and cool places for the pupils to use on extremely hot days.
An integrated approach has been adopted to improve the sustainability and effectiveness of the project. Alongside the structural interventions of installing water storage tanks and solar equipment, schools have established health clubs that teach students about keeping the environment clean, proper waste disposal, and general health and hygiene. This was a collaborative project with The Salvation Army in the United Kingdom.
