The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is a fundraising effort that began in 1891 when Salvation Army Captain Joseph McFee was distraught because so many poor people in San Francisco were going hungry and he wanted to provide them with a free Christmas dinner. Captain McFee decided to place an iron kettle at a ferry landing to collect money so that he could feed the needy at Christmas. Since then, The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign has become a tradition practiced in many countries worldwide. Public contributions to Salvation Army kettles enable us to continue our year-round efforts at helping those who would otherwise be forgotten.
This Christmas season, we’re partnering with selected malls to kettle throughout the month of December.
