Beth's Story

Oct 21, 2019

Beth, her fiancée Tim, and her seven-year-old lost everything in a natural disaster.

Their home. Their clothing, furniture, and household items. Even their family pictures were lost in the storm.

“It was very stressful. Worst amount of stress we had been through. We had nothing. No clothes, my son didn’t have a bed.” -Beth

Then it got worse. Beth lost her job. Her seven-year-old son had to be transferred to another school. The family began crumbling and Beth was losing hope fast.

“One day I just poured my heart out to God, just asking for a sign of hope,” Beth said. “Our family needed a win. We had been through so much and we just needed a sign.”

Shortly afterward, a friend told Beth about The Salvation Army’s programs that help people in crisis. She went to learn more and met with the local Salvation Army officer.

“The major listened to our story. He told me not to worry. Then he looked me straight in the eye and said, “There IS hope.” That was the sign from God that I was praying for.”

In the next few weeks, The Salvation Army worked with Beth to help connect her family to the services they needed. Food, furniture, clothing were provided for Beth and her family. Through The Salvation Army’s network of agencies, it was able to identify resources to help her family get back on their feet. But more importantly, they offered hope.

“There was no lower to go. I kept saying to God that I am not Job. I am not strong, I can’t do this,” she cried. “But by the grace of God and with the help of The Salvation Army the Lord provided.”
