A Salvation Army women leaders’ planning conference took place in Savar, Bangladesh, from 31 January to 1 February. Building on this year’s international Women’s Ministries theme ‘Mission to Serve’, its purpose was to inspire and encourage leaders to implement outreach events and programmes.

Leading by example, a practical session involved officers distributing nearly 200 cups of soup and toast to people on the streets nearby. Delegates were blessed by the positive outcomes of this initiative, and the greater understanding of how simple acts like these can become an important aspect of local mission opportunities.

The experience underscored the value of meeting basic needs in a tangible way despite limited local resources, and how such community initiatives can be implemented despite the context of diverse cultures, religions and economic situations.
