President's Blog - January/February 2018
During the past year we have talked about, reflected on and put into practice the theme ‘Being Transformed into God’s Image’. In 2018, we will continue to remind ourselves of our responsibility in serving God with a specific focus on the theme ‘Mission to Serve’.
We will be looking at our commitment in service to the poor and marginalised as we recognize that this was true for Jesus. He came to save the lost and his life demonstrated that he cares for the poor. His compassion was evident when he saw the need of the people and we are to follow in our Master’s footsteps. This theme also emphasizes the two-fold mission of The Salvation Army – to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in his name without discrimination – as we go forward and continue to be mobilised for God.
Our key verse for this year is from Jesus’ parable of the sheep and goats, ‘Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it for me’ (Matthew 25: 40). Ten Bible studies written by women from around the world are available to help us develop and go deeper into this theme.
Wishing you all a blessed year as we grow in our relationship with God and as, with his love and power, we go about our mission to serve.
