Caring for each other
All around the world, workplaces, restaurants, bars, clubs and many activities and events are closing down or being cancelled. This includes, in many places, Salvation Army gatherings. For many of us, this can be really difficult.
Gathering together and sharing in fellowship is usually so important. We are called to do so in the Bible – for example in Acts 2. So while we understand how important it is not to meet just now – to protect the vulnerable – we also recognise the impact that being isolated is going to have on lots of people.
We’ve put together these ideas for how we can keep on caring for each other, and keep on being people who care.
- Phone, text or video call a friend.
- Help with shopping and other goods.
- Uphold a friend in prayer.
- Give a gift of entertainment to somebody who is isolated.
- Support a struggling local restaurant or café.
- Open your windows and sing or make music!
- Support food banks, pantries and community cupboards.
- Drop cards with your contact details through your neighbours’ doors.

Tips for online video
With many Salvation Army centres unable to gather together at the moment, you may be thinking about whether you could provide an online alternative. This is an exciting opportunity not only to reach regular congregations, but also those who might not normally enter our buildings.
If you are unsure how to go about providing such a service, we have put together a few tips and things to think about below.
Prayer resources
General Brian Peddle has issued a call to prayer, urging Christians to pray into the current coronavirus situation with urgency. Sunday 19 April 2020 has been set aside as a key time to do this together, initially. Your response can take many different forms, from quiet individual reflection, to family discussion and group prayer via video call.
