Taiwan
Pioneered in 1928 by Colonel Yasowo Segawa, work in Taiwan was curtailed by the Second World War. Following initiatives by American servicemen Leslie Lovestead and Robert McEaneney, the work was officially re-established in October 1965 by Colonel and Mrs George Lancashire. Formerly linked with Hong Kong, it became a separate region on 1 January 1997.
