Family Stores Doing the Most Good®

The Salvation Army (Zambia) experiences success  together with its partners!

The Salvation Army in Zambia has been involved with Education for over 65 years now!  The single most important contribution that the Army has made towards education in Zambia  has been through Chikankata High School and Chikankata School of Nursing including Laboratory Sciences.

And about 12 years ago, The Salvation Army together with other faith based organizations and communities at large attempted to address the lack of schooling opportunities for orphans and vulnerable children- a problem compounded by the HIV/AIDS pandemic- by constructing a number of Community Schools.  And in some cases this was done in partnership with the Government and donor agencies like the EU, USAID, and NORAD.

However, it has come  to light that  a number of these schools are faced with a lot of challenges i.e  infrastructure limitations lack of trained teachers and teaching and learning materials.  And so in order to try and address these needs a new program called: 'Partnerships for Improvement of Community Schools in Zambia' involving the EU, World Vision UK and World Vision Zambia ECR (Expanded Churches Response) and The Salvation Army in Zambia was started about one year ago. The target is to construct more than 15-ONE BY TWO-Classrooms Blocks in rural Zambia by March 2011.
