Chief of the Staff Leads Weekend Worship at North Shields, UKTHE Chief of Staff, Commissioner Robin Dunster, gave the congregation at North Shields, United Kingdom Territory, an insight into the internationalism of The Salvation Army when she led weekend meetings at the corps. She was accompanied by Lieut-Colonel Edna Williams (IHQ) and the two officers referred in particular to their service in Africa and The Philippines, where they each served for many years. The Chief also mentioned the Army’s ongoing participation in many social and other areas of concern, including suicide prevention.Throughout the weekend the host corps was joined by Salvationists and friends from the neighbouring corps in North Tyneside – Shiremoor and Wallsend. A Saturday evening festival included massed band items 'The Kingdom Triumphant' and 'To a God Like This', and united songster contributions 'God of My Praise' and 'The Majesty and Glory of Your Name'.
The visiting leaders brought blessing through their leadership of Sunday's devotional meetings. The evening salvation meeting, attended by the Chairman and Consort of North Tyneside Council and the local member of parliament, again saw united sections participating.
The weekend proceedings concluded on a particularly happy theme as, following the Bible message which related to time and the way in which people use it during their lives, the Chief of the Staff presented a floral arrangement to Gladys Wright (Shiremoor Corps) in recognition of her 100th birthday.
