From the desk of the World President of Women's Ministries – Commissioner Silvia Cox
This month, as we are enjoying longer daylight hours and some improvement in the weather, often our walks take us to the Kesley Park, situated near to where we live. All over this lovely park, there are notices reminding people not to feed the wildfowls with white bread as it causes a deficiency in vitamin E with the result of a condition known as angel wing. The birds affected by this condition will never be able to fly again. So there are notices, a photo and real living examples of the consequences of this, but what surprises me each time we go, is that people keep feeding the birds with white bread! They have been warned, they see the consequences in front of their eyes, but they still do it!
This makes me think of the story in the Bible (Luke 16:19-31) of the poor beggar Lazarus who dies and goes in heaven and the rich man who dies too and goes to hell. As the rich man is suffering in hell, he asks if Lazarus could go back on earth and warn his five brothers, so that they will not end up like him. The answer he received was: “They have Moses and the prophets. If they won’t listen to Moses and the Prophets, they’re not going to be convinced by someone who rises from the dead.’”
How true it is! Jesus has risen form the dead and is alive, but still many do not believe in him.
Our challenge, sisters in Christ is to persevere and faithfully proclaim the word of God as it is written: “So then, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message comes through preaching Christ. “ (Roman 10:17) so that many souls will be saved.
