WHO WE ARE



Major Richard Welch

Richard joined IPDS in January 2011 as International Projects Officer. Richard was born in the UK, but grew up in South Africa and is married to Sandra, a South African. Richard spent 14 years in the hotel and catering industry before returning to the UK in 1992 to train as a Salvation Army officer. He and Sandra have served in corps, divisional and territorial appointments during the last 15 years. Between 2003-6 Richard was the Projects & Development Secretary for the Southern Africa Territory which included Mozambique, Lesotho and Swaziland. In addition to his catering qualifications and Membership of the Institute of Hospiltality, Richard holds a BA (Hons) in Accounting & Finance and BTh from University of Aberdeen.

Karen

Karen Horne joined IPDS in October 2001 to work as office administrator. Karen has worked for The Salvation Army since 1987 and spent 3 of them working in Havirov, Czech Republic. She has a Diploma in Environment and Development, and is continuing studies towards a BA/BSc (Hons) International Studies.
Jo

Jo Clark joined the IPDS team in February 2005. She is responsible for projects in the Americas and Caribbean, and is also managing the external projects portfolio. She holds a master's degree in geography and a post graduate certificate of education. Her previous work has included five and a half years working with The Salvation Army in Ghana, first as a secondary school teacher and later with women's development and micro finance.
Hanna

Hanna joined the IPDS team in January 2009 and is responsible for projects in Africa. She has a BA in sociology and gender studies and master's degree in international development and cooperation from the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland.

She has lived in Ethiopia, where she worked for local human rights organisations and was a lecturer in sociology at a local health college.
Jonathan

Jonathan Hibbert-Hingston joined IPDS in October 2009 as the Community Development Coordinator for the South Pacific and East Asia zone and South Asia zone. He has recently returned from a two year placement with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) in rural Malawi, Africa.

He has also worked for the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs as a rural development advisor. His university background includes undergraduate and postgraduate studies in agriculture and rural development.
Major Lalsangpuii

Major Lalsangpuii joined IPDS in June 2009 from India Eastern Territory as Assistant Projects Coordinator for Europe Zone and Mission Support Projects for South Pacific and East Asia. She has been an Officer for 25 years. She spent 18 years at Territorial Headquarters with various appointments and another 7 years in corps appointments, Boys and Girls Home, School, Divisional Headquarters and CHAN (Community Health Action Network - Salvation Army HIV/AIDS Programme).
