William wrote of his sister after her death in March 1902...

...She was a woman of unblemished integrity, and of stern devotion to what she conceived to be her duty. Early in life, among my old friends the Wesleyan Methodists, she sought the Saviour, and the greater part of her days she counted herself, I believe, as belonging to that community. Some little time ago prompted by a desire for a closer walk with God, and a more satisfying sense of His favour, she reconsecrated herself to His service in one of our meetings, and from that time has been a faithful Soldier in our ranks. As a Soldier in The Salvation Army, she respected its officers, rejoiced in its success, believed in it as a glorious agency for good, prayed for its extension, subscribed to its funds, and could she have anticipated her death, I believe she would have chosen to be buried under its Colours.
