| The Sweep And The Giant back to 'Elijah Cadman'
Elijah Cadman, 'the Converted Sweep' and Dr John Reid Morrison, 'the Christian Mission Giant', who on average weighed 33 stones, were two of the attractions of the "Great Salvation Fair" held in Whitechapel in 1877. On one occasion when Dr Morrison was being driven along the Commercial Road, Whitechapel in a four wheeler, his great weight was too much for the rickety vehicle - the floor collapsed and until he could let the driver know of his predicament, had to run along the roadway inside the cab framework as best he could!
