The Centre for Spiritual Life Development was privileged to once again be part of Find Your Mission, a discipleship project organized by young adults of the Netherlands and the Czech Republic Territory for young adults.
During Find Your Mission, people from six countries participated in various activities that brought them closer to God, to each other, and towards finding or developing their own life mission.
The base location was at The Salvation Army’s Goodwill Centre in the heart of Amsterdam’s red light district. During the three week programme, guest lecturers helped the participants discover more about holiness, spiritual gifts, social justice and discipleship.
FYM'ers also participated in various community service activities in the afternoon and evenings - these included cooking and serving people at Salvation Army community centres in Amsterdam; holding cafe church where anyone could come and get free food and an uplifting message; and having lunch and socializing with those at a community center for older people.
Participants also drew closer to God by engaging in daily Bible study, small groups and devotions. There were also many opportunities for intercession through weekly prayer meetings, 24 hour prayer and engaging in prayer stations along with opportunities for self-exploration and personal reflection.
At the end of the programme, participants moved forward with new goals and a greater passion for God and others.
The Salvation Army in Amsterdam has also launched an exciting new initiative: Urban Mission Amsterdam. Based on the experiences of Find Your Mission, the Army expands the opportunities for young people to live, learn, and serve the inner city of Amsterdam as a gap year or internship programme.
