019.jpgWe actively encourage medical students to join us from around the world during their medical electives and we commit to their ongoing development and training through supporting them whilst here. The exposure to a diverse range of tropical health and medical issues we face, gives all medical students a very much ‘hands on’ experience under the watchful supervision of our team of doctors. Medical students also experience healthcare in a rural setting by visiting and seeing to patients in our outlying communities and health clinics. The experience gained will not only be life changing, but will also ground and stretch the students in their knowledge and understanding of medicine and in the differing cultural ways in which medicine is practiced….and of course allow all participants to visit and see Africa and more importantly get to know us in our mission. Accommodation is limited and needs  to be arranged in advanced through the Administration department via Major. J. Mweene. The Student Accommodation Block has self catering accommodation for six students at a time.

There is a shared kitchen but everyone has their own shower and bedroom. The kitchen is reasonably equipped with plates, oven, fridge, tables, cutlery and pots. We charge US$100 per week which covers the placement within the hospital and for the accommodation. Besides medical electives, we also encourage those with experience in the wider world of healthcare to visit us, so that we can mutually learn from each other and develop collaborative working, academic and research  partnerships with different agencies, industries, universities and health care providers.

Places are limited and we look for people who can 'add value' to Chikankata as well as benefit their community when they return home. Therefore post-graduates and medical students are given priority. Major. J. Mweene is responsible for arranging and overseeing nursing / medical student placements. You can contact us at our corporate e-mail at chikankata.hospital@gmail.com.
