Programmes Offered

The college offers the following programmes;

Registered Nursing

This programme is a three year training programme and prepares the students to work in various health care settings. The students receive a Diploma at the end of training examined by the General Nursing Council of Zambia. 

Two (2) options are available under this programme as follows:

  • a.  Regular training: Traditionally the students under this option have longer face to face classroom interactions with lecturers with periods of 6-10 weeks. The intakes for this option commence in January each year
  •   b.  e-Learning training: This is a distance learning programme with shorter face to face classroom interactions with lecturers of 2 to  8 weeks. The students have self-directed learning periods of 3 to 5 weeks. The intakes for this option commence in July each year.

All options have same entry qualifications.

Entry Requirements

  • Five “O” levels or equivalent to the Zambian Education system as follows
    • English, mathematics and Sciences which must be credit or better
    • Geography, History, Religious Education, Civic Education, Commerce etc which must be credits or better.
  • National Registration Card
  • Must be 16 years and above
  • Registered Nursing: a three-year course, Diploma in registered Nursing.
  • Registered Midwifery: a one-year course, certificate in Registered Nursing   

 

Registered Nurse Midwifery

This course is offered for one year to in-service students (already qualified nurses). It is a specialization in midwifery and examined by the General Nursing Council of Zambia. The students obtains an Advanced Diploma in Midwifery at the end of training.

Entry Qualifications

Five “O” levels or equivalent to the Zambian Education system as follows

  1. English, mathematics and Sciences which must be credit or better
  2. Geography, History, Religious Education, Civic Education, Commerce e.t.c which must be credits or better.
  3. Registered Nursing Diploma
  4. Valid practicing license
  5. Letter of recommendation from employer
  6. Proof of sponsorship

 

Registered Midwifery programme (July Intake only)

This is a pre-service training offered to school leavers. It prepares the student to work as a midwifery but also offer general nursing care to the clients. The course is examined by the General Nursing Council of Zambia and the student is awarded a Diploma at the end of 3 years.

Career Prospects

Upon graduation, graduates are posted to places of work in the government under the Ministry of Health, while others may find themselves working within private health institutions.
